Colombia Scientific & Exploration Jet Charter

Jet Charter Colombia arranges flights for mining executives, geologists, engineers and research teams visiting projects in Colombia from the United States and Europe.

Getting the team to Colombia

Most of these trips start with an international flight into Bogota or Medellin, where the team meets its colleagues in Colombia before heading out to the project. A super midsize jet reaches Bogota from Houston, about 1,920 nautical miles, or from New York. A team coming from Madrid, about 4,340 nautical miles from Bogota, will need a long-range jet.

Reaching the project site

Mines and survey sites are chosen for what is in the ground, and few of them are close to a large airport. Flights between two Colombian cities are flown by Colombian charter operators certified by the Aerocivil, Colombia’s civil aviation authority, and so are the flights from the airport nearest to the site out to the project itself. Your advisor will talk you through the options when you plan the trip.

Samples, instruments and field gear

Research and survey teams rarely travel light. Core samples, survey instruments and field gear often come along, and some of it needs special handling. Send us the weights and dimensions with the passenger list, and tell us whether anything is classed as dangerous goods, because that changes which operators can carry it. If the equipment is moving on its own, a separate cargo flight may suit it better.

Programs that run for months

Exploration programs often run for months, with people rotating in and out on a schedule. Tell us the whole rotation plan when you first call, so we can plan the aircraft for each phase. We do not give firm quotes too far in advance, because availability shifts, but we will tell you when it makes sense to lock each trip in. You can see the aircraft sizes we work with on our passenger charter page.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Colombia-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Most international private flights into Colombia arrive at Bogota’s El Dorado International or Medellin’s Jose Maria Cordova International in Rionegro, and Cartagena also takes international flights. Flights between two Colombian cities are flown by Colombian charter operators certified by the Aerocivil, Colombia’s civil aviation authority. Bogota and Medellin sit high in the Andes, so the operator plans the aircraft and the load with the altitude in mind. October and November usually bring the heaviest rain to the Andes, the hurricane season from June through November can affect San Andres and the Caribbean coast, and the weeks from early December to mid-January and Semana Santa book up first. The routing and any fuel stop on a long trip are confirmed with the operator before you book.
