Colombia Relocation Flights

Jet Charter Colombia arranges relocation flights for families and executives moving between Colombia and the United States, Panama, Mexico or Europe. On moving day, a chartered aircraft keeps the family, the pets and the bags you need most together on one flight.

Choosing an aircraft for a move

On a relocation, the baggage matters as much as the number of seats. Some aircraft have larger cabins and baggage holds and can carry more weight, so tell us how many suitcases and boxes are coming as well as how many people. The distance matters too. Panama City is about 410 nautical miles from Bogota, a trip that turboprops and very light jets can make, although a family with a lot of baggage may need a larger aircraft. Mexico City is about 1,705 nautical miles, and for that distance we generally look at super midsize jets. Madrid is about 4,340 nautical miles from Bogota, and a move to Europe calls for a long-range jet.

Furniture and household goods

Many families ship furniture and household goods separately and bring what they need for the first few weeks on the flight with them. If some larger items need to arrive quickly, ask your advisor about a cargo charter for them.

When to start planning

We do not give firm quotes too far in advance, because aircraft availability changes from week to week. Even so, call us as soon as you have a moving date, and we will tell you when it makes sense to lock the trip in. Landing permits and authorizations are generally applied for after a trip has been secured on the aircraft schedule.

Moving with pets

We are very pet friendly, but not all aircraft owners are. Make sure to let us know about your pet prior to contracting. Pets moving into or out of Colombia need their own paperwork, which you will put together with your veterinarian, so tell us early and start on it as soon as your date is set. Our private jets with pets page has more on flying with animals.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Colombia-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Most international private flights into Colombia arrive at Bogota’s El Dorado International or Medellin’s Jose Maria Cordova International in Rionegro, and Cartagena also takes international flights. Flights between two Colombian cities are flown by Colombian charter operators certified by the Aerocivil, Colombia’s civil aviation authority. Bogota and Medellin sit high in the Andes, so the operator plans the aircraft and the load with the altitude in mind. October and November usually bring the heaviest rain to the Andes, the hurricane season from June through November can affect San Andres and the Caribbean coast, and the weeks from early December to mid-January and Semana Santa book up first. The routing and any fuel stop on a long trip are confirmed with the operator before you book.
